Leadership

At the Church of Christ in Highland Gardens, our leadership follows the biblical pattern established in the New Testament, with elders and ministers who serve as shepherds rather than rulers of God’s flock.

Our Minister

Derek Greene

Brother Derek Greene has been devoted to serving God and His church for more than three decades. He was baptized into Christ at the Northwood Manor Church of Christ, marking the beginning of his commitment to the Lord’s work.

In 1989, Brother Greene became a faithful member of the Highland Heights Church of Christ, where his passion for ministry and teaching took root. Under the spiritual leadership of Brother Robert Harper and the Highland Heights congregation, he began preaching in 1992, assisting various congregations that were without a full-time minister. During his time at Highland Heights, Brother Greene served in multiple capacities, including Alpha Group Ministry Leader, Educational Director, New Convert Teacher, Non-Member Bible Class Teacher, and Visiting Minister—spreading the Gospel throughout the brotherhood with humility and dedication.

From there, he continued his journey of ministry by serving as the pulpit minister for The Palm Center Church of Christ, where he labored faithfully for five years, helping the congregation grow spiritually and in unity.

In August 2014, Brother Greene began his current work as the full-time pulpit minister for the Highland Gardens Church of Christ. Through sound preaching, compassionate leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the Word of God, he continues to inspire and strengthen both the congregation and the community.

Brother Greene’s love for God extends beyond the pulpit. He is a Retired Educator from the Aldine Independent School District, where he dedicated many years to the academic and moral development of his students. He is also a proud graduate of Texas Southern University and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Additionally, he is actively involved in several civic and spiritual organizations throughout the Houston area.

Derek has been blessed in marriage to his beloved wife, Sister Michelle Greene, since 1987. Together they have two children, Joshua and Chastity Greene, and one cherished grandson, Jaxon Greene.

Outside of ministry, Brother Greene enjoys mentoring, fishing, biking, reading, meeting people, and most importantly, sharing the Gospel of Christ.

His favorite scripture, which guides his ministry and life, is Ephesians 3:20–21:
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
